Over 1.42 crore students across 1.32 lakh government schools participate in environmental awareness activities from November 1–7
Lucknow: Government primary and upper-primary schools across Uttar Pradesh are turning into centres of environmental awareness as the state observes BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week from November 1 to 7. The initiative, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, aims to sensitise more than 1.42 crore students across over 1.32 lakh council-run schools about environmental protection and sustainable living.
Based on the seven themes of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), the programme seeks to encourage children to adopt environmentally responsible habits and spread awareness among their families and communities. Eco Clubs are playing an important role in organising activities and promoting sustainable practices.
Each day of the week focuses on a specific environmental theme. Activities on healthy lifestyles were organised on November 1, energy conservation on November 2 and water conservation on November 3. November 4 focused on sustainable food systems. The upcoming activities will address reducing single-use plastic on November 5, minimising e-waste on November 6 and reducing waste on November 7.
Schools are organising Mission LiFE pledges, poster-making competitions, creative activities, workshops and awareness campaigns. Students and teachers are being encouraged to promote energy efficiency, water conservation, alternatives to plastic, waste segregation and recycling.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Basic Education Sandeep Singh said the state government was committed to providing quality education while developing environmental responsibility among children. He added that habits developed during childhood would create a strong foundation for environmental protection in the future.
Director General, School Education, Monika Rani said activities based on all seven Mission LiFE themes were being conducted through Eco Clubs and student participation. The initiative aims to make environmentally friendly practices part of everyday life and encourage students to take these messages to their families and local communities.
Through this statewide campaign, the government seeks to integrate environmental awareness with school education and nurture a generation committed to sustainable development.
